Following clashes between the KIA-affiliated forces and military-backed troops near Lamyang Village in Waingmaw Township, reinforcements from the Zahkung Ting Ying militia and allied units have been increasing their military presence in the region, according to local sources.
After the skirmish on March 22, Zahkung Ting Ying’s forces and allied military units began deploying reinforcements and launching counteroffensive operations, sources say.
According to frontline reports, the Zahkung Ting Ying forces and military junta troops are jointly attempting to retake the strategic Kanpaikti border gate, a key trade route in Kachin State.
"The Zahkung group is determined to reclaim Kanpaikti and has joined forces with the military council. They are now launching attacks from the Lamyang side, similar to previous offensives," said a frontline source.
Since March 17, the military junta has significantly increased its troop presence in the Waingmaw area, sending ten military trucks loaded with soldiers and weapons from Myitkyina. This build-up culminated in a direct clash with KIA forces near Lamyang Village on March 22.
"There is growing fear among us here in Waingmaw as we see the military junta reinforcing troops, weapons, and supplies. We worry that more clashes are imminent. Sometimes, airstrikes and drone bombings occur, which terrifies us even more," said a local woman from Waingmaw.
Locals report that the junta has been steadily ramping up its military activities since early March, deploying drones, aircraft, and heavy artillery strikes, heightening concerns that full-scale battles are imminent.
Currently, military-backed forces in Waingmaw are reinforcing their troops, military supplies, and rations, while intermittently launching drone and airstrike attacks.
Meanwhile, in Bhamo, intense clashes continue between the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and the military junta. KIA forces are aggressively advancing to seize full control of Bhamo, while junta troops are fiercely resisting in an attempt to maintain their hold on the city.
