Heavy rainfall since early March has triggered landslides across hills, cliffs, and bridges along the Putao-Khao Lan Phu highway, making travel nearly impossible and cutting off access to several areas in Khao Lan Phu Township, Putao District.

“The road has been closed for over a week now, and both cars and motorcycles remain unable to pass. Many travelers heading to Khao Lan Phu are stranded in Putao, with their vehicles stuck. Even if the weather improves, it will take at least another week for the road to dry and for landslides to be cleared. As of now, travel is only possible up to the San Lut Chet valley road,” said a local driver.

With the main road blocked, transportation between Putao and Khao Lan Phu has come to a standstill. Normally, vehicles travel from Putao to Redam Village, but the heavy rains have disrupted this route, leaving drivers and passengers stranded.

The disruption has also impacted trade, particularly the export of Black Cardamoms (spice), a key local commodity. Businesses reliant on transporting these spices to Putao have been forced to halt operations due to the roadblock.

Meanwhile, Shein Khao village, a popular tourist destination known for its glaciers, has been left deserted as visitors are unable to reach the area.
