The Myanmar Peace Monitor (BNI) released a report on March 20 detailing the clashes, airstrikes, and civilian casualties that occurred in Kachin State during February of this year.
Nationwide, a total of 89 clashes were reported, with Magway Region experiencing the highest number at 16 incidents. Kachin State recorded 6 clashes during the same period.
The military junta conducted intense airstrikes, including in areas where no clashes were reported and on civilian residences. Across the country, 108 airstrikes were carried out, with 5 of these occurring in Kachin State.
In Kachin State, specific incidents included:
- On February 24, a strike targeted gold miners near the Shwegu Township's Anntawshin Pagoda, along the Irrawaddy River.
- On February 21, airstrikes hit Gaw Ngu Yan village in Mansi Township and Yae Lay village in Bhamo District.
- On February 19, a strike occurred in Daw Hpum Yang area, Wet Yin village, Momauk Township.
- On February 14, a strike targeted Hsen Hka village in Bhamo Township.
These clashes and airstrikes resulted in the deaths of 140 innocent civilians and injuries to 263 others nationwide. In Kachin State alone, 8 civilians were killed, and 5 sustained severe injuries, according to the Myanmar Peace Monitor (BNI).
