The SAC and the KIA are progressively enlisting youth along the Myitkyina-Mandalay highway.

The armed forces have been enlisting young individuals who utilize the road since the beginning of January, and reports indicate that their recruitment efforts have intensified recently.

A mother recounted her son's journey from Myitkyina to Mandalay for an examination, noting that “the cost of the flight ticket was prohibitive. Consequently, her son opted to travel by car along that route. Upon inquiring with the drivers, she knew that they were unaware of the situation. They mentioned that they had also been instructed to kneel and bow their heads.”

It is reported that the whereabouts of the detainees remain unknown, as there was no access to phone or internet services during the time of their recruitment.

Recently, the SAC has been executing military operations along the Myitkyina-Mandalay highway, resulting in intermittent closures of the route.

Residents have reported that since January, the Shanni Militia has been actively recruiting young individuals in various villages, including Hopin, Bilu, Thae Gyi Kone, Pin He, and Pin Thar, located in Mohnyin Township. Additionally, the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) is also conducting mass recruitment efforts in Nant Si Aung village, situated on the border of the Sagaing Region, along with Pin Kyaing, Sar Hmaw, Mine Naung, and Loi Mon villages within Mohnyin Township.

It has also been noted that the individuals recruited during this timeframe consist of not only young men but also women and middle-aged men.
