Residents report that the Shanni Army (SNA) in the Inndawgyi region is actively enlisting young individuals at the Nant Moon Aung Myay checkpoint, asserting that their recruitment efforts will continue until they have gathered a total of 500 young men for military service.

On December 16, a 20-year-old male individual traveling in a passenger vehicle was apprehended by the Shanni Army for recruitment purposes while he was passing through the Nant Moon Aung Myay checkpoint, as reported by a source familiar with the detainee.

“We were en route to a relative's funeral in Chaung Wa, accompanied by our grandparents, and thus requested my nephew to drive, as we lacked another driver. Upon reaching the Aung Myay Checkpoint, we were informed that there were not enough personnel for military service, and they subsequently took my nephew,” as stated by the individual mentioned.

The Shanni Army is anticipated to enlist 500 individuals by December, as reported by local sources. However, the recruitment initiative is currently in progress, as the target number has not yet been reached. Recently, there have been numerous reports regarding the recruitment of young individuals from the Nant Moon Aung Myay Checkpoint and Mohnyin regions.

Furthermore, Shanni flags have been raised beginning at the Nant Moon Aung Myay checkpoint, accompanied by banners displaying slogans like “We will safeguard the Shanni homeland with Shanni blood.” Notices have been affixed to fences in the villages of Nant Moon and Mai Naung, declaring a curfew from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Consequently, local residents report that the population of young individuals in the Inndawgyi region, encompassing 14 villages surrounding Inndawgyi Lake, has risen. These young people are increasingly reluctant to remain in their locality and are seeking to leave.
