It is reported that the residents of Wadat Village, situated along the Myitkyina-Putao Pyi Daungsu highway, have been relocating to Lung Sha Yang Village since May 21st.
According to an evacuee from Wadat village, “The entire population of Sumpi Yang village and Wadat village sought refuge elsewhere. Presently, the SAC forces occupy the village and frequently travel to Putao Town for reinforcements. Since our village is situated before Sumpi Yang village, the SAC forces arrived and acted as they pleased, detaining and interrogating the young men and compelling them to accompany them as human shields. Consequently, we were compelled to leave the village.”
Another villager mentioned that he fled due to the SAC’s arrest and interrogation of the village’s men.
“All the villagers have fled within this week. The majority sought refuge in Lung Sha Yang village, while a few families (approximately 4 or 5) crossed the Mali Hka creek to the KIA Battalion (7th) area. We have abandoned our agricultural fields and livestock,” the villager added.
Following the successful capture of Sumprabum town by the joint forces of the Kachin Independence Army (KIA/KPDF), the SAC and local militia joint forces initiated an offensive and conducted military operations in the region between Putao and Sumprabum Town on May 12th.
As a result of the escalating armed conflict, the local residents of Wadat village expressed deep concern and were compelled to abandon their homes, livestock, and cultivated paddy fields, seeking refuge in safer locations.
It is pertinent to note that Wadat village is strategically situated along the Pyi Daungsu highway connecting Putao and Myitkyina. The village is a small settlement belonging to the Sumpi Yang group, comprising approximately 50 individuals and 15 households.
