It has been reported that over 1,000 residents of Sumpra Bum Township have been displaced due to ongoing clashes between two armed groups. "They are currently in urgent need of essential supplies, including clothing, umbrellas, raincoats, medicine, and food. The situation is further complicated by the closure of the road to Myitkyina, which is hindering the delivery of food supplies" said a man who evacuated to Pajau Media via phone.
"The ongoing armed clashes and airstrikes in the town of Sumpra Bum have made it difficult for residents to access food and other necessities. The local evacuees are facing challenges in obtaining rice from the Myitkyina side, raising concerns about a potential food shortage" said the above person.
Given the current circumstances, it is imperative to address the urgent needs of the displaced residents of Sumpra Bum Township. Immediate action is required to provide essential supplies and ensure their safety and well-being.
Furthermore, the incessant rainfall since mid-March has led to a surge in the number of displaced individuals seeking refuge and increased challenges in providing adequate shelter. Additionally, there are ongoing difficulties in ensuring consistent access to medical assistance.
It has been approximately a month since over a thousand local residents of Sumpra Bum Township were compelled to evacuate to the forest to ensure their safety. These individuals have sought refuge in two primary locations: Hka Garan Yang and Su Yang.
Since March 7th, the joint forces of the SAC and the KIA have been engaged in intense armed conflicts over the military base camp in Sumpra Bum Township. These conflicts persist and continue to pose significant challenges.
