Civilians from Waingmaw City, Aung Myay (1) who fled the war in the Maingna IDPs camp in Maingna village are in dire need of essential supplies. Over a thousand evacuees from Shwe Nyaung Pyin, Aung Myay (1) and (2) villages urgently require basic food items, cooking utensils such as pots, pans, and cups, blankets, and medical supplies including medicines and sanitary pads.

According to one of the evacuees, the SAC troops gathered everyone in the monastery and instructed the civilians trapped within the armed conflicts areas not to leave, preventing them from bringing any belongings. There is a pressing need for undergarments for both young girls and boys, as well as sanitary pads for young women. Other daily hygiene essentials such as toothbrushes and toothpaste, blankets, and cooking materials are also urgently required. Additionally, there is a significant demand for medicines for children and the elderly.

Through the collaborative efforts of the Peace Promotion Group (PCG) and religious congregation officials, the civilians were successfully evacuated from the armed conflicts on March 13th and are currently displaced in the Maingna IDPs camp, with some seeking refuge in the Katcho monastery.

Currently, the Maingna IDPs camp, which has historically served as a refuge from conflict, is experiencing an influx of displaced individuals, straining its resources. This poses challenges in providing adequate food for the growing population. While some individuals managed to bring rice during their displacement, others were unable to do so, creating disparities in access to food. The camp’s ability to provide sustenance may be limited in the near future.

A limited number of evacuees were able to bring essential items such as clothing, cookware, and utensils, while the majority arrived without these necessities.

Furthermore, the current displacement site is the same camp that accommodated individuals fleeing conflicts between armed groups in 2011. The escalating number of people seeking refuge due to ongoing armed conflicts exacerbates the situation.

As reported by the administrators of the IDPs camp, there are currently over 600 individuals displaced in the San Khar Baptist Association, having fled the armed conflicts in Aung Myay (1), (2), and Shwe Nyaungpin villages. Additionally, more than 700 people have sought refuge in the Naung Hee Church, while the Maingna KBC IDPs camp hosts over 1,000 displaced individuals.

Since March 7th, offensive attacks launched by the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) have resulted in clashes with joint forces of the military council, leading to the capture of numerous local residents as hostages by the military council.

In response to this situation, officials from the religious congregation and the Peace Promotion Group (PCG) have collaborated with relevant authorities to evacuate individuals trapped along the Myitkyina-Bhamo Highway since March 7th. On March 13th, a second evacuation operation was successfully conducted to rescue the remaining trapped individuals.
