Heavy artillery reportedly detonated at Radar (B) Ward in Myitkyina town around midnight yesterday, resulting in one injury and damage to two residences. Furthermore, the explosion also caused damage to the windows of nearby houses.

The homeowner, U Taman Wan Hpung, reported that his grandson was sleeping downstairs, while he and his wife were asleep in the living room on the upper floor. Although the homeowners themselves sustained no injuries, an individual from the adjacent residence was harmed by the weapon.

“Only three individuals reside in the household. The explosion occurred while the grandson was sleeping downstairs, and his grandparents were resting in the living room upstairs during the night. The front portion of the house, where no one was sleeping, sustained damage. A resident from the front house suffered an injury when a fragment of the shell struck her abdomen. Furthermore, the injured individual was transported to the hospital,” as reported by the aforementioned person.

A neighboring woman, who is over 50 years old, commented on the incident involving the woman struck by a large artillery shell, stating, "The weapon penetrated her abdomen, necessitating surgery. However, I am not fully informed about her current status, as I have not visited her yet. It has been reported that she is in critical condition."

A further heavy artillery shell detonated in an unoccupied residence close to the Rada-B AG Church. Additionally, local residents reported that the explosion caused significant damage to the ceilings, windows, and walls of the buildings situated within the vicinity of the AG Church.

In the area surrounding Myitkyina town, residents have been alarmed by the persistent sound of loud explosions during the night over the past three nights. This ongoing situation has raised significant concerns among the local population. Since December 4, there has been a marked escalation in armed confrontations between the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) joint forces and the State Administration Council (SAC) forces in the Bhamo region of Kachin State.
