Residents report that the SAC forces have established a checkpoint in front of the 58th Infantry Battalion base along the WaingMaw-Kanpaik Ti road in Kachin State for over two months, creating challenges for those traveling in the area.

“The checkpoint was established many years ago, and initially, passage was permitted during certain hours. However, access is now completely restricted. Consequently, if one wishes to reach a destination, it is necessary to utilize the ring road, as explained by a tourist.

Travelers have reported that initially, when the checkpoint was closed, there was a brief period during which passage was permitted for a limited time. However, it was subsequently closed entirely, resulting in significant difficulties for those journeying between Waingmaw and Kanpaik Ti via the ring road.

The road is unpaved and uneven, causing a tourist to express concern regarding the state of the vehicle and motorcycle en route to Pangwa and Phimaw.

“A motorcycle is also capable of traversing the road. When operating a car, it is necessary to proceed at a reduced speed. The condition of the road is quite poor, making it uncomfortable to drive at high speeds,” said the above traveler.

The residents are eager for the prompt reopening of the checkpoint, as the continued closure of the SAC’s checkpoint will exacerbate the condition of the road and complicate travel further.

The checkpoint was temporarily shut down on November 25th and subsequently closed permanently on the 26th, resulting in its closure for over two months now.

The 58th Infantry Battalion and Wuyang militia checkpoints are situated along the WaingMaw-Kanpaik Ti road, where the passage of trucks, motorcycles, and passenger vehicles is not permitted.
