Individuals infected with HIV have indicated that accessing antiretroviral therapy (ART) at Mohnyin General Hospital is challenging due to transportation issues.
It has been reported that acquiring ART poses challenges, as it requires a minimum of one month to obtain, and the medication is available for distribution only twice a week.
“Individuals must stand in line at the hospital to register for medication. The medication is available for distribution solely on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, between the hours of 10 am and 2 pm. However, obtaining the medication during the lunch break proves to be quite challenging. Among the group that arrived together, at least five individuals have succumbed while awaiting their medication,” as reported by a person undergoing antiretroviral therapy.
A 24-year-old individual, who has been undergoing antiretroviral therapy (ART) for nearly two years, reported that he faced transportation challenges that hindered his ability to obtain sufficient medication. Consequently, he was able to secure a one-month supply of ART in October, but could only manage to acquire a 14-day supply in both November and December.
A staff member affiliated with the ART department at Mohnyin Hospital has stated that the distribution of medication to individuals undergoing ART is being conducted, as there is a shortage of available medicine caused by transportation challenges.
Patients diagnosed with HIV/AIDS can only sustain their lives until the end if they adhere to antiretroviral therapy (ART) punctually. Furthermore, the aforementioned health staff clarified that the medication should be removed and utilized promptly to prevent it from reaching its expiration date.
