Motorists report that the conditions along the Myitkyina-Mandalay highway have intensified following confrontations between the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and the State Administration Council (SAC) forces in Indaw, located at the boundary of Kachin State and Sagaing Region.
Currently, there are no road closures in effect, allowing for normal travel. However, it is important to note that there are numerous checkpoints along the routes, with an increase in their presence compared to previous times, as reported by a motorist.
The Myitkyina-Mandalay highway experienced a temporary closure on the morning of January 27 due to the skirmish in Indaw; however, it has since been reopened today, attracting a higher volume of inquiries than previously.
At present, the cargo and passenger services along the Myitkyina-Mandalay route are functioning normally. However, it is noteworthy that security measures at checkpoints have been intensified, leading to increased questioning of pedestrians and passengers.
There are concerns that a potential closure of the Myitkyina-Mandalay highway may lead to an increase in prices within Kachin State and the re-emergence of fuel shortages.
KIA joint forces have successfully taken control of various checkpoints, including the police station, in Inndaw town and are persistently assaulting the remaining military positions of the SAC. In response, the SAC is employing airstrikes, drones, and heavy weaponry to resist these advances.
