The conflict between the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and the State Administration Council (SAC) in Bhamo and Mansi, which commenced on December 4, has seen a reduction in intensity in recent days. However, reports indicate that the SAC continues to conduct airstrikes, deploying bombs weighing between 500 and 1,000 pounds nearly every day, and is also setting fire to the residences of local inhabitants.
The commander of the SAC was killed during the skirmish in Mansi; however, Nay Pyi Taw is urging the SAC forces to persist in their resistance without capitulating. A soldier who managed to escape from the SAC's military camp in Mansi reported that individuals contemplating surrender are also at risk.
Displaced individuals fleeing the prolonged conflict for control of Bhamo and Mansi, which has persisted for 26 days, are reportedly encountering escalating challenges in securing food and shelter as time progresses.
