The Shanni Army is recruiting young people who live in the villages of Nan Mun, Maing Naung and Shwe Letpan in Indawgyi Region, Kachin State and reportedly the locals who go out on the street are being shot with guns.
“Due to the clashes between Shanni Army and PDF, the Shanni Army put the blame on the innocent civilians and recruits everyone who came out on the street. Among two civilians who have been recruited from Shwe Let Pan, one was released. There were about 20 young people who were recruited into the car yesterday. And people from Nan Moon fled away and there isn’t anyone left,” said a local.
The residents of Nan Mun Town fled to the churches and to their close relatives’ houses in Hopin and Mohnyin.
“Yesterday evening, they came and shot guns at the KBC church, almost ten shots. Even though no one was hurt, one man got shocked and died due to high blood pressure. We planned to take the elderly from the village, pregnant women and children to flee to Mohnyin. But the Shanni soldiers don’t allow people with luggage and backpacks to go. If they don’t have packs, they allow them to go,” said a woman from Maing Naung village.
The local residents were frightened by the sounds of heavy artillery and fled into the forest, said the woman above.
It is reported that, starting from January 23, the SAC and Shanni are often came in with troops column to Indawgyi Region to plan a military operation.
