The SAC declared on October 16 that the national census will be prolonged until the end of October.
The 2024 census, initially planned to take place from October 1st to 15th by the SAC, has been extended until the end of October due to the incomplete status of certain areas.
Censuses are presently being collected in several areas of Myanmar, including Kachin State. Furthermore, the People’s Defense Force (PDF) has also campaigned to prevent the collection of the census which is conducting without public consent.
On October 12th, a confrontation occurred between the PDF and the SAC which was engaged in census collection, in the vicinity of the Katha region along the Kachin-Sagaing border. Furthermore, there were also assaults on the SAC personnel conducting the census in Mandalay and Chin State.
During the census collection period, there were reciprocal arrests involving the anti-coup armed forces and the census collectors, which also resulted in several fatalities.
The Institute for Strategy and Policy-Myanmar, an organization dedicated to the analysis and observation of Myanmar's situation, reported that conflicts are taking place daily in over 230 of the 330 townships across the country.
Consequently, certain townships are governed by ethnic armed groups and the People's Defense Forces, which complicates the ability of the State Administration Council (SAC) to carry out a census. As a result, the SAC has been unable to release the census data that has been gathered.
