The SAC’s Checkpoints In Waingmaw Township Tend To Be Increased

As reported by the local residents, there were more than 5 SAC’s checkpoints and SAC’s joint forces checkpoints were increased in some paths of Waingmaw township which is known as a silence township due to the armed-clashes.


The Waingmaw locals were reported to be evacuated to safety for the first time on March 7th due to the intensified armed-clashes between the Kachin Independent Army (KIA) and the SAC forces and on May 21st, they had to evacuate to safety again.


Since then, the SAC stationed two checkpoints at the in and out of the bridge on the Nant Myit creek which is located at the Waingmaw – Myitkyina highway. In addition, the Military and the corporation of the municipal joint checkpoint is stationed at the entrance of the Waingmaw town and they have been collecting taxes from the cargo trucks passing by.


In addition to the increase of a joint checkpoint close to the Wuyang militia camp which is stationed on the Waingmaw - Sadung highway, the SAC and militia joint forces are strictly interrogating the pedestrians and collecting taxes.


The SAC military-based camps along the Waingmaw-Laiza highway, including SAC’s No (321) infantry battalion were departed since March 7th when the Kachin Independent Army (KIA) started their offensive attacks. However, the SAC forces have increased the checkpoints and collected taxes in some of the paths which are used by the locals to travel from Waingmaw to Myitkyina.


Most of the locals who evacuated to safety since March 7th are the locals from Hkashi, Innlay, AungMyay (1), AungMyay (2), ShweNyaungPin, Gara Yang, Kazu Yang, Dabak Yang, Gandau Yang and Namsan Yang villages which are situated along the Waingmaw-Laiza highway, Mading, Hka Kum, Wuyang, Mukchyaik, Lamyan, Namwa, Labang, Washawng villages which are situated along the Sadung-Chiphwi highway and Hkatcho, Mahkanti, Nawng Hee, Sangar, Tharmahkan and Hkantlung which are situated along the Irrawaddy River.


Moreover, the locals from Waingmaw stated that since the armed-clashes have taken places in Waingmaw township, there have been very few pedestrians passing by along the Waingmaw-Kanpaikti highway. Additionally, some of the fuel trucks and cargo trucks from the Kanpaikti, which is located at the border of China, are passing by the Waingmaw and it is also known that the locals’ cars are reported to pass rarely through the Waingmaw-Kanpaikti highway.
