The SAC’s Checkpoint Which Is Stationed At Ake Village Collects Nearly 800,000 Kyats Taxes Per Vehicle

As reported by the local residents, the cargo trucks are blocked at the SAC’s checkpoint which is stationed at Ake village (the outskirt of Myitkyina Town). In addition, the cargo trucks which pay a large amount of money as taxes, get permission to pass through the checkpoint.


It is known that the cargo trucks are blocked and the vehicles which pay 700,000 kyats to 800,000 kyats get permission to pass through the checkpoint. Additionally, the passenger from the vehicles have to get off the vehicles and walk to pass the checkpoint.


According to a car driver, even though only 400,000 kyats of taxes were collected per vehicle on 25th August, since 26th August the taxes increased to 700,000 kyats per vehicle.


It is stated that, in the previous the taxes were not collected arbitrarily as these days. Moreover, the taxes were started collecting within these days and it is noteworthy that the taxes have been collecting for almost 10 days at the Ake checkpoint.


Furthermore, more than 7 car drivers who drove passing through the Ake checkpoint were arrested by the SAC forces on August 26th and it is known that some of the arrested drivers were released and some are still detained by the SAC.


The vehicle which are heading to Hpakant, Mohnyin, Mogaung and Mandalay have to pass through the SAC’s checkpoint which is stationed at Ake village. In addition, the Ake checkpoint is located near the SAC’s Northern Combat.
