Residents have reported that there are now more stringent checks on pedestrians, vehicles, and motorcycles at various locations, including roads, traffic signals, and street intersections in Myitkyina.
A local resident reported that military personnel, police, and traffic police, all in full uniform, are collaboratively inspecting the primary roads and traffic signals in Myitkyina. In the past, their focus was primarily on inspecting vehicles, but they have now expanded their checks to include parked motorcycles as well.
“This morning, I traveled by motorbike from the village located eight miles away to the city in order to take my brother to the hospital. Upon arrival, we encountered a checkpoint in front of the Mang Hkring Parliament House, where numerous vehicles, including motorbikes, were queued. The authorities halted my brother and me, inquiring about our destination due to the bags we were carrying. Upon informing them that we were heading to the hospital, they permitted us to proceed,” said the above local.
The recent enhancement of traffic inspections has led to stricter scrutiny of passenger vehicles, as indicated by a driver. This increase in vigilance is attributed to allegations that these vehicles are being used to transport goods that aid KIA and PDF. Furthermore, some drivers have reported instances where their goods were seized and are now subject to ransom demands.
The SAC has reportedly increased its activities in the city during these days, while the anti-coup armed forces operating in the area have been apprehended. Residents have indicated that the SAC's presence in Myitkyina is more pronounced than previously, and there are also accounts of young individuals who have disappeared without any means of communication.
