Military training is currently being carried out in the village tracts of Putao Township and Ma Chan Baw Township, focusing on counter-terrorism and public safety. Participation is compulsory for men aged 30 and above, with a minimum of three representatives from each village tract required to attend. The first batch has completed their training, and preparations are underway for the commencement of the second batch.
A participant of the training reported that the initial two-week course concluded in November, with a total of 68 individuals taking part.
The training was conducted by the 46th Infantry Battalion of the SAC. Although it was a military training session, firearms were not provided to the participants. Individuals were summoned by name based on their respective village tracts and were required to attend. Numerous attendees chose to flee from the training. The organizers claimed that the purpose was not to compel anyone to engage in frontline combat, but rather to safeguard our region and to collaborate if needed to quell violence. They emphasized that there has been an increase in theft and robbery incidents, which necessitated our participation in the training to help mitigate these issues, as stated by one of the participants.
Upon the conclusion of the two-week training program, they were returned to their residences and directed to notify authorities of any unusual occurrences or acts of violence in their vicinity.
The graduates received marine uniforms, and the second week of training is planned for December. It is acknowledged that young men and women in the region are apprehensive about the potential for being subjected to derogatory name-calling.
