On January 24, at approximately 2:30 p.m., local residents reported that the SAC deployed two drone bombs targeting Laiza town, the site of the KIO headquarters, amidst ongoing intense skirmishes between the two factions in Bhamo.
A resident of Laiza stated, "We are fleeing due to the fact that the SAC has been fired upon twice recently. Everyone is making their way to a safe location. I am uncertain about the landing site of one of the shells, but the other struck Ward 3. Fortunately, there were no injuries."
On January 24, the KIA initiated a new offensive in the Bhamo region. Following receiving report that an armored vehicle had been captured from the SAC’s 21st Battalion by the KIA joint forces, the SAC responded by conducting a drone strike on their headquarters.
KIA joint forces have been engaged in offensive operations in the Bhamo region since December 4, which is over a month ago. Furthermore, it has been reported that they have successfully seized and taken control of multiple SAC military bases within the Bhamo area.
Local residents report that when the SAC suffers defeats in the skirmishes occurring in Kachin State, it frequently resorts to deploying aircraft and drones to the KIO headquarters. As a result, individuals from the Laiza region are presently seeking refuge in safer locations.
