The gold entrepreneurs have reported that the SAC has raised taxes on gold entrepreneurs from Mamon Kai village in the Indawgyi Region since October.
An entrepreneur stated that while they are currently operating with a monthly fee of 1,500,000 kyats and 16.6 grams of raw gold for each gold mining block, they have been imposing an additional charge of 30,000,000 kyats for every gold mining block and 500,000 kyats for each excavator since October.
Villagers from Mamon Kai report that small-scale entrepreneurs utilizing Honda machines for gold panning, which previously incurred a monthly tax of 500,000 kyats, are now facing an increased tax obligation of 1,500,000 kyats.
More than 200 gold mining blocks are currently being excavated using heavy machinery, while over 300 gold mining entrepreneurs are engaged in gold panning utilizing Honda machines in Mamon Kai village.
At the conclusion of September, a group of entrepreneurs acquired one acre of farmland in Mamon Kai village for 350,000,000 kyats. According to an individual with close ties to the administration in Mamon Kai village, these entrepreneurs have purchased a total of 10 acres.
The individual further stated that gold entrepreneurs in Mamon Kai village are purchasing an acre of land for gold mining at prices ranging from 350,000,000 kyats to 500,000,000 kyats.
Illegal gold mining activities are reportedly on the rise in the Indawgyi region, where substantial machinery is being utilized. Concurrently, gold blocks are being extracted from Mai Naung Village to Mamon Kai Village following the coup.
