The SAC forces have intensified their operations in the villages surrounding WaingMaw town. Since early December, residents of Mai Na Village have been instructed to detain anyone who ventures outside after 8 p.m. Mai Na Village is situated near the Balamin Htin Bridge, which links Myitkyina and WaingMaw town, and it also hosts the internally displaced persons (IDP) camps.
An evacuee reported that the SAC forces in WaingMaw Township have shown heightened activity since early December. They have not only been observed patrolling near the Mai Na IDP camp but have also intermittently stationed themselves at the camp's entrance to monitor movement, which has raised apprehensions regarding the safety of the internally displaced persons.
“They are present in the vicinity of the Mai Na IDP camp. Occasionally, they halt near the entrance of the camp to monitor the movements of individuals. Previously, they experienced fear at the sight of soldiers. However, with the resumption of checks, their concerns for safety have intensified. This situation is particularly distressing for the elderly, who struggle with the Burmese language and consequently feel a heightened sense of fear,” said the above person.
A resident of Myitkyina reported that the State Administration Council (SAC) has recently intensified its activities not only in WaingMaw but also in Myitkyina. The individual advised that it is prudent to avoid going out at night unless absolutely necessary, given the rising number of arrests.
Military operations have been significantly intensified by the SAC in the city of Myitkyina. Reports indicate that numerous individuals involved with the anti-coup armed forces are being apprehended. A resident of Myitkyina advised that it is prudent to avoid going out at night whenever possible.
The SAC has been present in the Nawng Hkring region, which is home to displaced individuals, since early December. Furthermore, military operations continue, raising concerns among internally displaced persons (IDPs) and local inhabitants about a potential escalation in hostilities.
