The reported increase in the number of checkpoints established by the SAC and militia along the Myitkyina-Mohnyin road, coupled with the implementation of more stringent inspections, has created significant challenges for travelers.

A tourist reported that, despite routine inspections occurring at each checkpoint, the situation at the Maw Hpaung military checkpoint located on the outskirts of Myitkyina was notably different. At this location, all passengers were required to exit their vehicles, their registration numbers were taken, and they were instructed to verbally recite these numbers. Those who were unable to do so faced prolonged questioning.

Interrogations are conducted at various military checkpoints; however, the situation is particularly severe at the military gate located at the exit of Mow Hpaung. During our return journey from Mohnyin yesterday, officials initially recorded the details of the individuals in the passenger vehicle. Subsequently, they required each person to recite their names and registration numbers individually. Some elderly individuals struggled to recall this information, resulting in significant delays at the checkpoint. The personnel, fully uniformed and armed, caused distress among some young women, leading to tears. This experience was profoundly disheartening, he remarked.

There are claims that these interrogations are not only hindering the flow of tourists but also fostering an atmosphere of intimidation. Additionally, it has been reported that the joint checkpoints spanning 21 miles along the Myitkyina-Mohnyin road are being reinforced in response to allegations of supplies being transported to the KIA and PDF.

Approximately 20 checkpoints manned by the SAC and militia forces are situated along the Myitkyina-Mohnyin road. Drivers report that the rigorous inspections and toll collection at each checkpoint make travel challenging for the general public.
