The SAC forces have been carrying out unannounced inspections of various hotels and guesthouses in Myitkyina, the capital city of Kachin State, since the beginning of January.
“On January 1st, at approximately 10:30 p.m., a knock was heard at the door of the hotel room, which I proceeded to open. Subsequently, police officers and armed soldiers entered and conducted a search of our mobile phones. They also examined the area beneath the mattress. There were no additional specific inquiries,” stated a man who was residing in a hotel in Yuzana Ward, reflecting on his experience.
A hotel staff in the Myoma district reported, "Approximately 3 to 4 vehicles would arrive simultaneously, and they confiscated the phones of hotel employees for inspection. They also examine the guest rooms and ultimately inspect the staff dormitory. I have never encountered such a thorough inspection previously."
A local resident residing near the township municipal office reported, "I was on the phone upstairs when I heard a disturbance at the hotel across from my home. Initially, I assumed it was related to a recruitment event or something similar. It was approximately 11 o'clock. I was quite taken aback when I learned that an inspection was being conducted at the hotel."
In the past few months, hotels and guesthouses in Myitkyina have undergone inspections; however, these assessments were informal in nature, with only photographs being captured.
