Residents of Waingmaw and Bhamo, who have been forced to flee due to clashes between the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and the State Administration Council (SAC), report that their residences have been subjected to bombing and their possessions have been looted.

Numerous individuals in the Bhamo region have been compelled to evacuate independently since December 4. Additionally, inhabitants of villages such as Mok Chyik, La Myang, and Wu Yang in WaingMaw Township have also been driven to seek refuge in safer locations since the onset of hostilities in March 2024.

The SAC forces are allegedly transporting valuable household goods, such as pots, pans, and tables, abandoned by displaced individuals in both large and small trucks. Additionally, they are reportedly forcibly entering the homes of local residents and appropriating their possessions.

In addition to the pilfering of personal belongings from displaced individuals in the WaingMaw region, the SAC are establishing checkpoints along various segments of the roadway to restrict movement during specific hours and to conduct interrogations.

The residences of displaced individuals in Bhamo are experiencing break-ins and theft, while certain homes and courtyards are being destroyed and repurposed as military encampments.

At present, the conflict remains intense as the KIA joint forces are actively obstructing and assaulting the positions held by the SAC’s 21st Battalion and the 47th Infantry Battalion in Bhamo. Local inhabitants report that military operations are also taking place in the vicinity of the SAC’s 58th Infantry Battalion in WaingMaw.
