The conclusive judgment regarding the case of the repeated sexual assault of a minor girl in Okkyin Ward, Mohnyin Township, is scheduled to be announced on February 5, as reported by the victim and her family.
Initially, when the case was opened, the judge indicated that it would be resolved within a six-month timeframe. However, the proceedings extended to nearly a year. The trial was set to occur weekly, with hearings taking place in court each week. Given that there were three defendants, the girl's mental state complicated the possibility of addressing all of them simultaneously, necessitating separate hearings. Additionally, the trial was postponed beyond the scheduled dates due to the girl's health issues. The child's parents expressed a desire for a prompt verdict, as the prolonged duration of attending the trial was burdensome.
Three individuals accused of rape have been charged under Section 376 at the Mohnyin District Court. Additionally, those who provided support to the accused are currently detained in Mohnyin Prison for their involvement in aiding and abetting the crime. They are scheduled to appear in court weekly, with the final verdict expected to be delivered today, February 5, at 2:00 PM.
The parents of the victim seek suitable punishment for the offenders, aiming to set a positive example for future generations of girls, particularly as their daughter is still a minor and has intellectual disabilities.
The incident of rape occurred in April 2024. Following the discovery of this event, a formal complaint was submitted to the Mohnyin Police Station on June 26. Subsequently, in the evening, the three individuals responsible for the crime were apprehended and taken into custody at the Mohnyin Police Station.
The victim was merely 15 years old at the time of the assault, had a mental disability resulting from epilepsy, and was additionally responsible for the care of a 70-year-old woman who was afflicted by a stroke.
While she was buying bread for her grandmother, she was lured into the grocery store of U Bo Ye, where he assaulted her. Subsequently, U Moe Hla Htay, the proprietor of an optical shop located in the railway station building, also took advantage of her in his room. Additionally, U Kyaw Moe Lwin, who operates a hot dog stand, similarly assaulted her in his establishment, under the pretense of offering her hot dogs.
Three married men, aged between 40 and 60, are accused of sexually assaulting a mentally disabled minor girl by enticing her with a mere one to two thousand kyats and some inexpensive goods.
The victim's family urges the public to stand in solidarity with the girl regarding the final verdict, which is scheduled to be announced at 2 PM today. Additionally, Pajau Media will persist in its investigation and coverage of the forthcoming verdict.
