The Putao Locals Are Facing Shortage of Goods Due To The Re-closure Of The Road

It is reported that the local residents of Putao are facing shortage of goods due to Myitkyina-Sumprabum-Putao road closure for more than one month.


There have been mountain collapse and landslides occurred due to the extensive rain in June. Therefore, it is known that there is shortage of goods in the region and the cargo trucks which carry goods are not able to enter to Putao due to the road closure until today.


The goods are not reloaded, even though the goods which the locals have are entirely sold. So, the locals are facing shortage of goods and facing difficulties.


According to Putao local resident, “The Putao-Myitkyina highway was closed for more than 3 months and it was reopened for temporarily in June. There were some goods which entered in that short-period of the road reopened. But currently the goods are almost gone and some locals are facing shortages of food and difficulties. In addition, the prices of the rest of goods which left are skyrocketed.”


The Myitkyina-Putao highway closed for more than 3 months due to the military tension between the two armed-forces and it was reopened temporarily in June.


Moreover, the mountain collapses and landslides due to the heavy and continuous rains lead to the road closure and it is known that the road has been closed for more than one month since the extensive floods.


In addition, it is mentioned that the road and water- course in Tayang Zup which is located in Myitkyin-Sumprabum highway also closed indefinitely by the SAC since August.
