As said by the local residents, the prices of goods in most of the regions in Kachin State are still rising and the price of rice has risen to nearly 300,000 kyats per sack. In addition, job opportunities for the local residents are hard to find in the regions and the locals are struggling for their living.
The Myitkyina-Mandalay highway has been closed since August 17th and the goods which transported to Kachin State have stopped. In addition, the prices of the goods are still rising due to the closure of the highway which has been closed until today.
According to Hpakant local residents, at present, the price of a sack of Paw San Mwe rice has risen from 190,000 kyats to 400,000 kyats, a viss of salt is raised to 10,000 kyats, a viss of onion is raised to 5,000 kyats, a viss of garlic is raised to 20,000 kyats, a viss of ginger is raised to 15,000 kyats, a viss of dried-chilly is raised to 20,000 kyats, a viss of tomato is raised to 7,000 kyats, a viss of chicken is raised to 35,000 kyats, a viss of beef is raised to 25,000 kyats and a viss of cooking oil is raised to 9,500 kyats in the Hpakant area and the prices are still going up in the region.
In addition, as reported by the Putao local residents, the price of rice is raised to 280,000 kyats per woven sack, a liter of gasoline costs 20,000 kyats, 30 pieces of eggs cost 24,000 kyats, a viss of cooking oil costs 35,000 kyats, a viss of onion costs 12,000 kyats and a pack of salt costs 5,000 kyats in the Putao region.
Similarly, the prices of goods in Myitkyina are also skyrocketing within these days. The price of woven sack of Paw San Mwe rice costs nearly 200,000 kyats, 30 pieces of eggs costs 35,000 kyats, a viss of iced-fish costs 45,000 kyats, a viss of beef costs 26,000 kyats, a viss of garlic costs 20,000 kyats, a viss of cooking oil costs 28,000 kyats, a liter of gasoline costs 6,500 kyats and a jerrycan of fuel costs 1,350,000 kyats in the Myitkyina region.
At present, the prices of goods in all over Kachin State have risen due to the road closure and the goods are transported by the aircrafts during these days. Additionally, the prices of goods seem to be risen due to the transportation fees of the flights in Kachin State.
It is stated that as the prices of goods have skyrocketed in the region, the livelihood of locals assume to be in dilemma. On the other hand, the scarcity of medical supplies is also experiencing due to the road closure and the intensified armed-conflict in Hpakant, Myitkyina and Putao regions.
It is noteworthy that the Myitkyina-Mandalay Pyidaungsu highway has been close indefinitely since August 17th due to the escalating armed-conflict between the anti-coup armed forces and the SAC forces in the Sagaing-Kachin Border Areas.
