As reported by the local residents, the price of fuel has almost risen to 10,000 ks per liter in Myitkyina, Kachin State within these days.

The fuels imported to Myitkyina are mostly from the Sagaing – Kachin border and Waingmaw – Kanpaikti China Border. However, the fuel prices have reported to be risen more in Myitkyina due to the taxes which are collected at the checkpoints along the Waingmaw – Kanpaikti highway and the blocked of fuel trucks which are stranded at the checkpoint of Nant Si Aung without getting permissions to pass through for a long period.

According to a Nant Si Aung local resident, “There are many fuel trucks stranded at the Nant Si Aung checkpoint. I think the SAC forces don’t give the fuel trucks permission to pass the checkpoint because they are afraid that the KIA/KPDF joint forces will launch the offensive attack on the Nant Si Aung checkpoint if there aren’t any fuel trucks at the checkpoint.”

At present, the price of gasoline has risen between 6,500 ks and 6,850 ks per liter at the gas stations and it has risen between 7,100 ks and 7,500 ks per liter at the mini gas stations selling along the roadside. In addition, it has been 2 days since some of the gas stations in Myitkyina has closed due to the shortage of fuels.

It is also stated that, the fuel utilizing in Myitkyina within these days are the fuel imported from Waingmaw – Kanpaikti China border. Despite that, the prices of fuel are still rising due to the increase in Chinese currency in the region. Additionally, it is indicated that a 100 Chinese Yuan costs around 80,000 Myanmar kyats.

Moreover, it is noteworthy that the locals in Myitkyina are facing difficulties due to the skyrocketing prices of fuel and goods in the region as well as poor communication due to the cut off of phone signals and internet.
