According to residents of Myitkyina, fuel prices in Kachin State are increasing because fuel bowser vehicles from Yangon are not arriving in Kachin State.

A fuel trader from Myitkyina explained, “The Bhamo-Myitkyina highway has been closed for a significant period, and the Myitkyina-Mandalay highway has experienced intermittent closures and reopenings. However, the reason for the fuel bowser trucks being denied passage is unclear. Consequently, as long as these trucks are not allowed to enter, fuel prices will continue to rise.”

Currently, the price of gasoline in Myitkyina has surged to 4,000 kyats per liter and 900,000 kyats per gallon, compared to just over 3,000 kyats per liter until mid-May.

Moreover, in the Putao area, where trade has been completely cut off, the price of gasoline has escalated to 70,000 kyats per liter.
