A one-night stand, a trend prevalent among the youth today, refers to a sexual encounter with an individual met during social activities such as drinking and dancing in venues like bars, karaoke lounges, and nightclubs. Engaging in a one-night partnership entails sharing a night together, irrespective of one's marital status, whether one is married, single, or in a relationship.

It is not significant whether two individuals will meet again in the future. Contemporary youth exhibit a lack of interest in utilizing condoms for disease prevention during sexual activity. Furthermore, they tend to rely on emergency contraceptive pills as a means to avoid pregnancy.

The consequence of this situation is the increased risk of contracting sexually transmitted infections alongside HIV. The most concerning aspect is the uncertainty regarding the infection status of individuals. As a result, silent carriers of HIV are becoming more prevalent, as individuals remain unaware of the transmission dynamics between them.

In Kachin State, a review of the period from 2021 to 2024 reveals a concerning trend: the HIV infection rate has increased twofold among individuals aged 23 to 30. During this timeframe, the challenges associated with accessing ART have intensified. Some individuals experience stigma related to ART, leading to tragic outcomes as they forgo treatment and ultimately succumb to the disease.

Job opportunities are limited, and young individuals seeking enjoyment within the flawed national system find greater happiness in venues such as KTVs, bars, and clubs.

Certain young women who are unemployed and wish to present themselves attractively provide their phone numbers at KTV establishments, requesting that patrons contact them if they require a companion for their entertainment. It is also known that most of the KTV in the rural areas do not officially employ female singers.

KTV establishments facilitate the arrangement of female companions for guests without the obligation of tax payments. The girls come to the KTV, and if they want, they may accompany the guests to a hotel for an overnight stay.

These young women, aged between 15 to 25 years, are in relationships with their boyfriends. Engaging in unprotected sexual activities heightens the likelihood of HIV transmission. The current prevalence of casual sexual encounters and the associated risk of HIV infection is a concerning issue for the youth of today.
