According to local residents, the closure of the Putao-Myitkyina highway has persisted for over two months, resulting in a fuel shortage in Putao and the cessation of operation of most network towers, including MPT and Mytel.

Since May 8th, numerous phone towers in Putao Township have ceased functioning due to reported fuel shortages, as stated by locals.

Furthermore, a telecommunications employee mentioned that the fuel scarcity prevented tower refueling, leading to the shutdown of phone networks and internet services. Only two operators, Ooredoo and Atom, remained operational in the region.

With the Putao-Myitkyina highway shut down for over two months and fuel supply disrupted for more than a month, the situation remains dire.

Moreover, skirmishes between the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and the SAC forces in Sumprabum Town since March 8th prompted the indefinite closure of the Putao-Myitkyina highway by the KIA on March 9th.
