A funeral home located in Myitkyina, Kachin State, has announced that the remains of individuals who perished in a traffic accident, following the disruption of phone signals, have been interred as unclaimed bodies without any identified owners.
A representative from a funeral home reported that during the final three months of 2024, there has been an increase in traffic accidents, resulting in the cremation of up to 10 unclaimed bodies. This situation has arisen due to inadequate phone service and insufficient contact information.
“Individuals who have lost their lives in traffic accidents often lack registration, rendering it impossible to ascertain their identities or origins, which hinders any investigative efforts. There are ten individuals who have been interred as unclaimed remains,” said the above person.
Four individuals who lost their lives in a traffic accident in Myitkyina last December were interred as unclaimed bodies, as their families could not be contacted, as reported by a funeral home.
The body was identified as unclaimed on the funeral home's Facebook page; however, the family has yet to reach out to them. Following the post, the only responses included remarks like, "I have been concerned about my brother for an extended period, and I have not been in contact with him."
