The rainy season has severely impacted Tanai Road, resulting in significant damage that hinders the passage of small vehicles. Additionally, passenger buses remain unable to traverse this route, as reported by the Myitkyina Thit Sar Ayar Bus Terminal.
It has been reported that the appropriate authorities have failed to assume responsibility for the maintenance of the damaged road. Furthermore, despite the presence of smaller vehicles, they have to spend two or three nights on the way and the vehicles are being pulled by elephants and bulldozers along the route.
Due to the fact that even minor vehicles are operating overnight, passenger buses are presently unable to run. Additionally, a representative from Myitkyina Thit Sar Ayar Bus Station indicated that the buses have been halted for nearly a month.
"The road is quite rough and the road has not been repaired yet, so even small cars need to be pulled by the elephants and the bulldozer. In addition, people have to sleep for three or four nights if it is raining on the way. I guess the passenger buses will be able to travel after November 10th. But not sure yet,” he said.
The Myitkyina-Tanai Road spans over 100 miles and previously required only six hours for traversal. However, following the heavy rainfall in July, the Tanai-Lido Road has suffered significant damage, necessitating an overnight journey.
It has been reported that approximately ten locations along the route have sustained damage, particularly between Dum Bang village and Shadu Zup village, as well as between Nawng Mi and Wara Zup village, and along the areas of Ting Kawk village, Nan Hpyet village, Nawng Lung village, and Kawng Ra village. Furthermore, nearly three months have elapsed since individuals began using this compromised road, prompting local residents and pedestrians to urge the appropriate authorities to address the repairs urgently.
