The concerns of the Myitkyina locals have arisen regarding the extremely tight security in the neighborhood of the Northern Military Head Quarter in Myitkyina region.

It is reported that previously there were Aung Zayar Aung checkpoint and Pamati checkpoint near the Northern Military Head Quarter in Myitkyina. Currently, the two new checkpoints named the Balaminhtin checkpoint and Mahar Aung Zayar Buddhist Temple checkpoint were extended and it is known that armed-forces have been reinforced since August 6th as well.

The checkpoints which had 2 or 3 guards before are extended to 5 guards. In addition, only the civil servants are allowed to pass the checkpoints, despite that the local civilians are not allowed to pass through the path.

Furthermore, the guards who are posted at the checkpoints are interrogating the civilians who pass through the path by blocking the road with the barriers and they are just leaving a narrow space to pass for vehicles. And the military forces are demonstrated to be crowded more than before in the neighborhoods.

Moreover, combination of more than 10 battle tanks and military vehicles were settled in the neighborhood of the Northen Military Command. The local resident speculated that the military forces extended the security under the reason of preparing defenses for the present military tension in the Kachin State.
