According to the local residents, even though the MPT phone operator is accessible in some area of Kachin State, including Myitkyina, Kyun Taw Ward in Mogaung and Kyauk Tawng Ward in Namti since the beginning of August, it is still difficult to do communications through the MPT phone operator.

It is reported that only Kyauk Tawng Ward in Namti near Myitkyina Town, Kyun Taw Ward in Mogaung Town were accessible the MPT phone signal. In addition, it is also reported that the MPT signal is only accessible nearby MPT office and government administration offices and some wards of Myitkyina city. Nevertheless, it is still difficult to make even a phone call in the areas mentioned above.

As said by a local resident of Kyauk Tawng Ward Namti Town, the locals have to go to the area where the phone signal is operating to make a phone call. Even so, due to the interrogation and inspection of the SAC forces in the MPT phone signal accessible area, the locals only go and make a phone call in emergency states.

“Only Kyauk Tawng Ward is accessible MPT phone signal in Namti area, but we have to redial several times to get a single call. The SAC forces are interrogating the locals who come to Kyauk Tawng Ward to make a phone call occasionally, so if it is not necessary to make a phone call, we just don’t go there for making it.”

It is noteworthy that, all of the phone signals and internet in Kachin State were cut off at the same time by the SAC since 21st July.

After the phone signals and internet cut off, only the area near MPT office Myitkyina branch was accessible for the MPT phone signal. Therefore, the locals from Mogaung and Mohnyin areas came to Myitkyina for making phone calls. In addition, the locals have been facing difficulty in communication, even though the MPT phone signal has been restored in some areas of Kachin State in limited duration, since the beginning of August.
