The SAC is not only conducting censuses in certain areas of Kachin State, but it has also been reported that military operations are taking place in the Tanai region concurrently, under the guise of census collection.
The nationwide census collection period is scheduled from October 1st to October 15th, during which the majority of the Tanai region is undergoing census data collection. Furthermore, several local residents have been subjected to interrogation and arrested by the SAC amid the census collection process.
On October 9th, the SAC joint force carried out military operations in the villages and neighborhoods of the Tanai region, presenting these actions as part of a census collection initiative purportedly aimed at enhancing security. In addition, local inhabitants reported that pedestrians were subjected to questioning and apprehended during the course of the military operation.
Local residents report that the Min Zin Thant Militia, situated in the Tanai region, has been carrying out frequent military operations in the villages of Wa Ra Zup and Shadu Zup, located along the Tanai-Lido highway.
A local resident remarked that in previous years, they had never witnessed military operations of this nature. However, in recent times, it has become evident that women are also taking part in the military campaign.
The Min Zin Thant militia forces are deployed at three locations within the Tanai region, specifically in Shadu Zup village, San Pya village, and at the Shadu Zup bridge.
Residents express concern that the military situations in the area may escalate, as the joint militia forces are undertaking frequent drone surveillance near Shadu Zup village and the surrounding Wa Ra Zup village.
