As reported by the local residents, some of the low-lying areas in Myitkyina, Kachin State have been flooded and the locals are facing difficulty due to the heavy and continuous rains within these days.
It is stated that some fields and low-lying areas of Myitkyina have been flooded due to the overflow water which caused by the heavy and constant rainfalls. In addition, the locals said that they flood delays traveling.
The wards which have been flooded are Rampu, Kyet Paung Cyang, Sitapru, Lekone, Yuzana-Kwattit and Myothitgyi-Kwattit. Additionally, the wards mentioned above are said to be flooded for along period and those wards are known to be low-lying areas of Myitkyina city. Therefore, the locals are worried that there will be flooding in Myitkyina just as the beginning of July, if the heavy rains keep falling in the region.
Similarly, there had been an extensive flooding in the beginning of July due to the heavy and continuous rainfalls. Moreover, the locals’ houses, fences and stalls which were situated along the Irrawaddy River and low-lying areas were flooded and adversely damaged by the floods. Therefore, the locals are renovating their damaged properties difficultly which were damaged by the floods.
The long period of flooding can pollute the environment and can increase the propagation of the mosquitoes which causes the malaria and dengue fever. In addition, the health of the locals is reported to be in concern.
At present, there are many patients, including children aged under 5 years and elders, who have been suffering malaria and dengue fever in the region.
