The SAC ordered the residents of Sum Pi Yang Village, who fled due to the military tension between the two armed groups in the Sum Pra Bum Region, to return to the village as soon as possible, stating that no one could evacuate to another place.

“Since the SAC fired heavy artillery weapons and small arms continuously inside the village, all the local residents fled for their safety. However, the locals had been residing in the village since March 18th, as the SAC forced them to return. In addition, they ordered the residents not to flee outside of the village for almost 10 days,” reported a Sum Pi Yang resident.

Concurrently, this period coincides with the farming season for the Sum Pi Yang residents, thus, most of the residents conceived fleeing to their farm due to the armed tension. Despite that, the SAC camped in Sum Pi Yang Village ordered the villagers not to leave the village.

According to the local residents, the SAC currently stationed in Sum Pi Yang Village is patrolling around the village full-time, and the residents are locked up in the village without being allowed to leave.

The Kachin Independence Army (KIA) started an offensive attack in the Sum Pra Bum Region since March 9, and on March 16, they captured the SAC-based camps stationed in the Sum Pra Bum area.

Sum Pi Yang village is located between Putao Town and Sum Pra Bum Town and has a population of over a thousand people.
