As said by the local residents, the villagers of Nyaung Pin Thar Village in Namma Town, Kachin State, are afraid of the explosion of the random artillery shells fired by the SAC in the village and evacuating to safe places.
It is learnt that, there were incidents of the artillery shells’ explosion in the village of Nyaung Pin Thar, Namma Town in last January and many civilians got injured and some died due to the artillery shells’ explosion. In addition, the artillery shells fired by the SAC stationed at Mohnyin University Campus exploded in a field near Nyaung Pin Thar Village, on April 1. As a consequence, the local residents are afraid of the artillery shells and they are evacuating to safety.
As explained by a local, “The artillery shell fired from the Mohnyin side fell in the field near the village, and we could even see the huge puffs of smoke from the explosions. There were also the same incidents happened in Namma on last January: such as a woman and two of her children were died and 5 of civilians were injured due to the artillery shells fired by the SAC, in addition, on January 29th, the artillery shell fired by the SAC fell and exploded on the highway Road and it killed one civilian and another one got injured. The explosions occurred, while people were living in their houses, therefore the local residents are afraid of the random artillery shells and no one dares to stay in the village anymore,” said a local.
It is reported that the unexploded artillery shell that had fallen into the field was not confiscated by the SAC, in addition, the police and civilians were forced to dig it up and bring it to the SAC military camp.
As added by the above local resident, “the villagers were forced to dig out the unexploded artillery shells which hadn't exploded because of the soft soil in the field with hoes, and the police were watching the villagers from the sidelines. After the villagers dug the shells out, the police took it to the SAC military camp.”
The artillery battalion which was firing the shells randomly, didn’t take responsibility for the injured and the dead of the civilians, additionally, the artillery battalion commander has denied that they didn’t fire the artillery shells. On the other hand, the local residents said that the SACs may have fired the shells deliberately because there were PDF forces in Nyaung Pin Tha Village, Namma Town.
