The Putao District People’s Defense Force (K-PDF) and Kha Kar Pu People’s Defense Force (KPF) issued a joint statement on May 9, urging fuel traders not to exploit the temporary closure of the Myitkyina-Putao highway in Putao District, Kachin State, due to military tensions.
Following the closure of the highway, fuel prices in Putao district have skyrocketed, with the price of gasoline reaching 50,000 kyats per bottle yesterday.
In their statement, the KPF and K-PDF emphasized the importance of not collaborating with the State Administration Council (SAC) and warned against taking advantage of civilians during this challenging period.
Furthermore, they warned that if traders persist in exploiting civilians despite the advisory, strict measures including banning and confiscating fuel businesses will be enforced.
Since the evening of March 8, the Myitkyina-Putao highway has remained closed due to military tensions in Sumpra Bum Township, leading to a steady increase in gasoline prices in Putao Township.
