Since the third week of March, the State Administration Council (SAC) has been implementing the Conscription Law and distributing military service summonses in numerous townships of the Kachin State. In response, KIO Deputy Chairman General Gun Maw issued a cautionary message to the youth via his Facebook page yesterday.
In his letter, General Gun Maw poses the question, “Which path will you choose?” The message is written in both Kachin (Gara lam de hkawm na?) and Burmese (ဘယ်လမ်းကိုရွေးမလဲ?). He emphasizes that "It has been 40 days since the SAC issued the Conscription Law and warns that those who believe they will be safe by staying at home are mistaken." General Gun Maw stresses that "The situation has escalated to the point where summonses are being delivered door-to-door." He urges the youth to make a timely decision, as they may face unforeseen challenges if they delay.
On February 10th, the State Administration Council (SAC) enacted the Conscription Law. Furthermore, reports indicate that summonses for military service registration have been delivered to young civilians in certain townships of Kachin State by ward administrators appointed by the SAC.
