As per the local residents in Putao, the Kachin State Chief Minister will be distributing fuel to the farmers in Putao, where there is a fuel shortage. Therefore, they have collected farm receipts and started collecting advance payments from May 8.
According to a farmer, “They stated they would sell diesel for three gallons per acre. Initially, they said they would sell it at the standard price, but now they are requesting an advance deposit at the rate of forty thousand kyat per gallon. I am uncertain when the fuel will be sold. They mentioned they would distribute it based on the farm ownership form and the farm receipt.”
The SAC will sell diesel at the rate of three gallons per acre of farm, with a price of 40,000 kyats per gallon, and the farmers are being charged the money in advance.
On April 30, the Chief Minister and Government Officials arrived in Putao Town and made an announcement regarding the sale of fuel to farmers who are facing challenges due to fuel shortages. The fuel will be sold at normal prices to support the farming community. Subsequently, the Diesel was airlifted using the SAC’s Y8 aircraft.
According to a farmer from Putao, "The fuel will be sold at a rate of 40,000 kyats per gallon, with a limit of three gallons per acre. However, this price is significantly higher than the normal market price, and the quantity provided is insufficient for the farmers’ needs. Typically we require at least five gallons of fuel to plow an acre of land. Additionally, the ongoing fuel shortage has resulted in prices reaching up to 80,000 kyats per gallon, causing further difficulties for the farming community this year."
Starting from the beginning of May, the relevant administrative offices began collecting receipts and certificates of farm ownership from various village groups in the townships of Putao Region. The collection of advance payments commenced on May 8.
It is worth noting that the Putao-Myitkyina highway has been closed for two months, leading to a shortage of goods in five townships of Putao Region. This situation has caused significant challenges for the local residents, who are grappling with soaring prices of essential commodities.
