The Kachin Independence Army (KIA) has launched an offensive against the Nam Ya SAC military base camp in Nam Ya Village, Hpakant Township.
On April 9th, at approximately 6:00 AM, the KIA No (9) Brigade and Allied Joint forces initiated an attack on the SAC’s No (120) Infantry Battalion, which is strategically located on the Myitkyina-Hpakant road.
The conflict between the armed groups escalated, prompting the SAC’s Northern Regional Military Headquarter to intervene by deploying jet aircraft and heavy artillery in support of the Nam Ya village attack.
As a consequence of the ongoing clashes, a significant number of local residents have been compelled to evacuate to ensure their safety. It is noteworthy that the residents have been advised to vacate the area for nearly a month, resulting in a substantial reduction in the village’s population.
Furthermore, the clashes have severely disrupted pedestrian access to the village, causing inconvenience and hindering daily activities.
