Local residents report that fuel prices have once again increased recently in Myitkyina, Kachin State.

As a result of the conflicts occurring along the Myitkyina-Mandalay highway, the arrival of fuel trucks from Mandalay has been halted for nearly three months. Consequently, fuel must be imported and distributed through the Kanpaik Ti border gate with China.

Due to the ongoing intense clashes near the Chinese border at Kanpaik Ti, the Waing Maw-Kanpaik Ti road has been shut down. Additionally, the Chinese authorities have closed the border gates, which has halted the flow of fuel into Kachin State, resulting in a further increase in oil prices.

A local resident remarked that prior to the beginning of October, gasoline prices were typically around 6,500, with some stores charging 7,000. However, in recent days, there has been a noticeable increase in gasoline prices. This morning, the cost was approximately 8,800 to 9,000. The resident expressed concern that living conditions are becoming increasingly challenging due to the rising prices of commodities and fuel.

Skirmishes are ongoing in Kachin State. Furthermore, the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) joint forces have launched attacks and successfully seized border guard stations located near the Chinese border, which has served as the primary fuel supply route for Kachin State since October 15th. As a result, the military situation around Kanpaik Ti is intense, leading to the closure of roads in the area.

The passenger buses and cargo trucks are currently operating on the Myitkyina-Mandalay highway; however, there is a delay ranging from 8 to 13 days on this route. Consequently, the ongoing delay in the transportation of goods from Mandalay to Kachin State is resulting in a shortage of medicines and other essential items in Kachin State.
