It is reported that the interim schools (Prangwan) in Kachin State, which opened in most of the villages by the churches since 2021 after the military coup, are said to be closed in this coming October, despite haven’t finished their 2024-2025 annual academic year completely due to the fierce armed-clashes.
Normally, the interim schools finished their annual academic year in every February. However, due to the political instability in the Kachin State, the interim schools are decided to be closed in October in this 2024-2025 academic year.
As said by a student’s parent, the learning process of the interim students are disturbing and the students are afraid to finish their school without learning anything due to the early finishing of the school period which emerge resulting from the political instability.
“The schools have prepared to finish fast due to the political situation. In addition, the students are also concerning about their lessons. It is also concerned to finish all of the lessons in this short period. As a parent, I want the children to attend the academic year completely. Even they are going to go up for the next grade in the following year, they could not catch up with the previous academic year’s lessons,” said the above parent.
The interim schools used to open for a half day during the schooldays and finish their annual academic year in the next February in the previous years. However, the schools are going to finish in coming October, therefore, the schools are opening from 9:00 AM in the morning to 3:00 PM in the afternoon during the schooldays currently.
