As the conflict persists in the Bhamo region, local inhabitants have been evacuated to safety for over two months. This prolonged displacement has exacerbated the challenges of securing shelter, food, household necessities, and medical supplies. Displaced individuals have reported increasing difficulties in obtaining food and water.
Over 800 displaced families in the Mangweingyi region of Mansi Township are encountering challenges in securing shelter, food, and medical supplies, in addition to experiencing inadequate water resources and shortages.
The IDPs are not only lacking support but are also encountering financial hardships stemming from challenges in securing employment, ongoing conflicts in multiple regions, airstrikes, and assaults by porters.
The IDPs are primarily seeking refuge in regions within the KIO control that experience fewer armed conflicts, including Mai Ja Yang, Laiza, Nbapa, and the Momauk-Mansi area. Additionally, some individuals have also been reported to be seeking refuge in the forest.
Armed-clashes between the KIA and the SAC have persisted in the Bhamo region for over two months, beginning on December 4. As of February 16, tensions between the two factions continue to be elevated.
Residents report that the SAC is supplying food via aircraft and augmenting military forces on a daily basis amid the ongoing conflict.
