The Sumprabum local residents said that, as most of the locals from the Sumprabum area do up-hill farming, they couldn’t do any farming activities this year due to the intensified armed-clashes which took place in their region. In addition, they were reported to evacuate to safety during the harvest season.
According to a Sumprabum local, “We used to do up-hill farming for our family’s livelihood. But this year, we had to evacuat to safety because of the military tension between the two armed-forces. There were some crops which we harvested but we also had to leave them in the farm. As the up-hill farming is such of seasonal activities, we need to concern about the food supplies this following year because of the absent-farming in the previous farming season.”
It is known that since the KIA joint forces started their offensive attacks on March 7th, the locals from the Sumprabum area left their homes and evacuated to safety due to the armed-clashes between the two armed-forces. In addition, they had to flee during the harvest and the farm were reported to leave without harvesting.
Moreover, the Sumprabum locals evacuated more than 3 months into the woods due to the armed-clashes and returned to their hometown after the KIA joint forces seized the Sumprabum area in May.
Although the Sumprabum area is currently under the KIO government, the several sectors including health, education, etc., have to rehabilitate. Therefore, it is stated that the locals seem to face more difficulties in food stock this following year due to the absent-farming in the previous years.
