Following an extensive two-month offensive by the KIA in Bhamo, the second capital of Kachin State, another artillery battalion was seized last night. Additionally, gunfire was reported in proximity to Tan Phre village, located north of the capital, Myitkyina.

The KIA and allied forces initiated an offensive against the SAC forces positioned at the 21st Battalion, 366th Artillery Battalion, 236th Infantry Battalion, and the Kandaw School. On the evening of February 2, the 366th Artillery Battalion was the first to be seized, along with a substantial cache of weapons and ammunition.

Tourists are reportedly hesitant to return to Myitkyina following the recent sounds of heavy weapon explosions near Tang Hpre village in upper Myitkyina, as said by a visitor.

The prospect of returning to Myitkyina fills me with trepidation upon hearing the distant sound of artillery fire. I have been informed that the KIA has been firing artillery at the SAC forces as they move closer to the forest where the KIA is positioned, he remarked.

Local residents report that the SAC has increased its military presence in the Tang Hpre region by approximately 100 troops since January 29. Additionally, the locals have been hearing gunfire since February 2.
