Residents report that the prevalence of drug users in the region has diminished as a result of the collaborative initiatives undertaken by the Community-Based Anti-Drug Team and the Ulang Pa Region KIO Anti-Drug Team in the Mangweingyi area of Mansi Township, Bhamo District.
A village elder from the Mangweingyi area said, "Since the initiation of the anti-drugs campaign, I have noticed a significant reduction in the presence of drug users in the vicinity. Previously, they would be seen wandering the streets, but now they have diminished considerably."
In the Mangweingyi region, two organizations collaborated over a span of three days, from February 10 to 12, to conduct anti-drug operations. As a result, 25 individuals were apprehended and subsequently held at the Mangweingyi Drugs Rehabilitation Center. Additionally, a limited quantity of heroin and WY pills was confiscated from those arrested.
“In the Mangweingyi region, there was previously a significant presence of drug users and dealers, as well as a considerable number of thieves. However, following the operations of the anti-drug teams over the past two to three months, there has been a noticeable decline in both the number of dealers and users. There are now nearly no drug dealers active in the village,” remarked by the above elder.
The Anti-Drug Committee will offer drug withdrawal support to users at the rehabilitation center for a duration of up to six months. Additionally, a member of the committee has reported that the anti-drug campaign in the region has been active for nearly three months.
Following a period of three months dedicated to anti-drug operations, there has been a notable reduction in the incidence of theft and robbery within villages and neighborhoods, alongside a decline in the number of drug dealers and users.
The Anti-Drug Committee stated that the objective of the campaign is to decrease the prevalence of drug users within the general population and among youth. This initiative was undertaken in response to public demand, prompted by a rising incidence of theft and robbery in various villages and neighborhoods.
